ALS Awareness Events is a small, hands-on community effort. The work happens because people volunteer their time, ideas, relationships and skills.
David Collins
David grew up in a family where volunteering was simply part of life. When his sister Carolyn shared her ALS diagnosis in January 2023, he began looking for ways to create awareness and support people affected by the disease.
That response became the ALS Awareness Ride and BBQ, followed by comedy nights, auctions and other community events.
John Purchase
John joined the ALS Awareness Events effort after a call from Steph Legari and has helped with media, websites, promotion, creative materials and event communications.
The work is also personal: John has kept retired Canadian submariner Jake, who lived with ALS, in mind throughout the campaign.
